Keratin Express Aftercare: First 72 Hours & What to Avoid

We’re easy to talk to, and people tell us they leave our chair “feeling and looking great”, so here’s the straight answer: wait at least 48 to 72 hours before you wash, wet, sweat hard, or tie your hair after Keratin Express. That window is when the smooth seal is setting. Protect it now, and your frizz-reduction and shine boost hold up the way you paid for.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep it dry, loose, and low-drama
Right after your 90-minute Keratin Express ($210), your job is simple: don’t disturb the finish. In the first two days, we generally recommend no washing, no rinsing, and no getting caught in surprise water. That includes steamy showers if you know your hair tends to frizz up just from humidity.
And keep your hair down. Skip tight ponytails, braids, clips, headbands, and anything that presses a bend into the hair. Even a “quick” twist can leave a crease you’ll notice in photos. If you need it out of your face, use a very loose tuck behind the ear.
Sunnyvale real life tip: Warm summer days in Sunnyvale can turn a quick errand into a sweaty one. Plan your Keratin Express around outdoor events, long walks, or patio time so you’re not fighting sweat in the first 72 hours.
If you commute through the Moffett Park business district (East Arques corridor, North Sunnyvale), try booking early evening or weekend time so you’re not rushing, overheating, and throwing your hair into a tight tie during traffic.
Days 3 to 7: your smooth finish loves gentle routines (and hates chlorine)
Once you’re past the 48 to 72 hour mark, you can wash, but keep it kind. This is where a lot of people accidentally shorten their results with “normal” habits that are a little too aggressive.
What to avoid in the first week
- Clarifying shampoo or anything that says deep clean, detox, or reset.
- Salt sprays and heavy dry shampoos right at the root. They can make hair feel rough fast.
- Pools, hot tubs, and ocean swims at least through the first 72 hours. Chlorine and salt can pull at the smoothness and shine.
- Hard workouts that leave your scalp drenched, especially in Sunnyvale heat.
What to do instead
Keep your washes gentle and your styling simple. A lot of our guests love that we’re efficient while still being detailed, and the same logic applies at home: use a small amount of product, rinse well, and don’t overwork the hair.
Busy tech schedules are real. If your goal is low-maintenance polish, let your Keratin Express do the heavy lifting. A quick blow-dry on medium heat and a light pass with a brush is usually plenty once the finish has set.
Sulfate-free shampoo, sodium-chloride-free conditioner: the product rule that keeps results
After your first wash, stick with sulfate-free and sodium-chloride-free shampoo and conditioner. Those two labels matter. Sulfates can be too stripping, and sodium chloride can shorten the life of smoothing services.
Quick label check in your shower: If you see “clarifying” or “deep cleansing, ” save it for later. If you’re unsure, bring the bottle photo next time and we’ll tell you yes or no in about five seconds.
For styling, keep heat reasonable. Use a heat protectant if you’re blow-drying or flat ironing. And go lighter than you think on oils and serums. A pea-sized amount on mids and ends is usually enough to keep the shine without making your hair feel coated.
We serve Sunnyvale, plus a lot of Mountain View, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and San Jose clients. If you’re hopping between meetings and events, this routine is designed to keep your hair looking smooth without adding time to your mornings.
If you got sweaty or your hair got wet early, do this (and text us)
Life happens. If you get caught in rain, your scalp sweats during a commute, or your hair accidentally gets splashed in the first 72 hours, don’t panic and don’t start scrubbing.
- Blot gently with a towel. No rough rubbing.
- Smooth the hair back into place with your hands so it dries without weird bends.
- Let us know what happened and when. We’ll tell you the simplest next step.
“She truly listens to what I want and pays incredible attention to detail.”
one of our regulars
That attention to detail is exactly why we want you to reach out early if something feels off. A small issue is usually easy to fix when we catch it right away.
